About Earth, Wind and Fire
Earth, Wind & Fire (Earth, Wind & Fire) is an American band who has been recording music since the late 1960s. The band has been prolific and plaed in a variety of musical genres ranging from jazz, R&B, soul, funk, disco, pop, EDM, Latin, all the way to Afro pop Many critics and fans describe teh band as one of the most innovative in the world. And their creativity and innovation has paid off as the band is one of the world’s best selling bands of all time with over 90 million records sold worldwide.
Band Founding
The band was founded in Chicago by Maurice White in 1969. At the time, White had grown out of a previous band known as the Salty Peppers and needed a change. The bands lineup included Philip Bailey, Verdine White, Ralph Johnson, Larry Dunn, Al McKay, Roland Bautista, Robert Brookins, Sonny Emory, Fred Ravel, Ronnie Laws, Sheldon Reynolds and Andrew Woolfolk.
The band released their self-titled debut album in February 1971 on Warner Bros. The album became a fast success reading #24 on the Billboard Top Soul Albums chart and has gone on to certified Gold in France by the SNEP. It was also just the start of the band’s long successful career in music.
Even in the early years, the band was known for their kalimba sound, a dynamic horn section, their incredible and energetic stage shows, and the contrast between Philip Bailey’s falsetto and Maurice White’s baritone voices.
Earth, Wind & Fire Achievements
Since their debut, the band has been no stranger to awards and accolades. They’ve won 6 Grammys from 17 nominations, four American Music Awards out of 12 nominations, and have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In addition, they’ve been inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, the NAACP Image Award Hall of Fame, and Hollywood’s Rockwalk, in addition to receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
