With the band’s long running career, it’s no surprise that they’ve played over 1,200 concerts to date. Especially when you consider that they started doing concerts as early as 1971. But like most bands at the time, their early years saw only a few concerts played per year.
For example, the band had only played a reported 30 concerts from 1971- the early 1980s. And this trend would continue with only a handful of concerts played per year all the way up until 2001.
But then, 2002 came and Earth, Wind & Fire fever struck hard. And the band responded with a fuller, richer concert schedule for the years that followed. In fact, between 2001-2009 the band played over 400 concerts alone. And these concerts took up both music festivals, formal concerts, and concerts with other performers across several of the best US venues.
During the 2010’s, Earth, Wind & Fire kept up this pace with an average of 50+ concerts played each year with 2013 standing out for having 76 concerts in that year.
As you can guess, the global pandemic forced the band to slow down, leading to a two year period with a combined 63 concerts from 2020-2021. Earth, Wind & Fire didn’t want to put their fans at risk and likely used this time to plan for their next explosive concerts when pandemic restrictions were lifted. And sure enough, in 2022, the band has played and scheduled 72 concerts to date. And this includes their current tour which has featured artists including Carlos Santana.
